# Quarter-I ## Teachings of Jesus ### Lesson 1: Lost Sheep and Coin * **Bible Portion:** Luke 15:1-32. * **Memory Verse:** "For the Son of Man has come to seek and save that it was lost" (Luke 19:10). * **Aim:** To understand that Jesus seeks the sinners as good Shepherd seeks the lost sheep. * **Teaching Aid:** Picture of a shepherd seeking the lost sheep * **Preparation:** One man had some ten hundred rupee notes. Some notes had something written on them. Others looked dirty or old. Some were really old. One note fell down somewhere else. When the owner counted, he found one missing. He felt sad. He started to search. Would he leave it unmindful of it? No, never. Soon he searched and found it. He cleansed it and kept it along with other notes. Children, the value of our soul is more than 100 rupee notes. Let us study today some important parables Jesus taught: ### 1. Lost Sheep (Luke 15:2-7) * One shepherd had 100 sheep. * He loved them all. * He counted them every day. * He used to take them to green pastures and hill sides for feeding. * They drink water from valley streams. The shepherd used to watch over them. * One day he came back with the sheep to its fold. * He counted them. * There were 99 sheep, one missing. * He searched the mountain. * The way was dark. * Where was the 100th sheep? He climbed the mountain. * He heard a feeble cry, "Baa-baa... mee...maa etc." * The sheep was twisted by twigs in the hillside bush. * He rushed to the source of the cry, took the sheep and went home. * The sheep was bruised and frightened. * He called all his friends and relatives to celebrate the return of the lost sheep. * There is great joy among angels when a sinner repents! ### 2. Lost Coin (Luke 15:8-10) * Another parable Jesus told is about a woman who lost her coin. She was a poor woman. * She was given ten coins by her husband. * She kept them carefully * She used to show them to her friends. * She wore one around her neck. * One day she found one lost. * She felt sad. * It was night, she couldn't see anything. * She lighted the lamp and began to search by cleaning every corner. * After a long search, she found the lost coin in one remote corner under a box. * She took it and told everybody about it. * She called people to celebrate her joy. **Moral Lesson:** Jesus came to this world to seek and search the lost people. All those who are not saved are like lost sheep or lost coin. Are you like a lost sheep or found sheep? Many of our neighbors are lost. Let us tell them about Jesus and bring them back to His fold. ### Questions * How many sheep were lost? * What are the two parables Jesus told to His disciples? * Color the picture/outline of shepherd searching the lost sheep. * Do you have non-Christian friends? Will you call them to Sunday School? The image shows a drawing of Jesus (wearing a green robe with a white head scarf) standing on a mountain. A large red cross is displayed behind him, and there are hills and trees in the background. The drawing is meant to be a depiction of a passage in the Bible, which the document then summarises. The text on the second page of the document has details about the parable of the lost sheep and lost coin.
