The sword represents the **[decision]** made by the judge. The sword represents **[sentencing]**: for example prison, the death penalty, a fine, etc. The sword may also symbolize the way justice defends the **[human rights]** (justice is a warrior that fights against injustice) The sword has a double meaning: it threatens the guilty (sentencing) but it also protects the innocent. *« The sword has a **[deterrent effect »]***.
