SAFETY PRECAUTION IN POWERPLANT PRESENTED BY: SANTOS, JAMIE C. FERNANDO, RAPH MHYCO A. HULLEZA, JOHN LLOYD B PORMENTO, ANGELO D. CONTENTS: SAFETY HAZARDS IN POWERPLANT PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) MATRIX CASE STUDY ON SAFETY INCIDENTS OBJECTIVES: By the end of this presentation, you should be able to: Determine the common safety hazards and understand their importance in various types of power plants. Provide information about the PPE Matrix; understand the proper usage of each equipments, and its purpose across different power plant areas. Analyze past safety incidents to gain knowledge in safety precautions and have an improvement for working in power plants by following the regulation. SAFETY HAZARDS IN POWERPLANT Power plants have a variety of safety hazards due to the nature of their operations and equipment. Some common hazards include: Electrical hazards Thermal hazards Mechanical hazards Fall hazards PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) MATRIX Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a necessary element in ensuring a secure working environment, particularly in industries that are associated with high risks, such as energy production. PPE acts as the ultimate barrier between workers and potential workplace hazards. It’s the last line of defense if all other safety measures fail or are incapable of completely eliminating the risks. PURPOSE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTS (PPE) MATRIX: 01 REDUCE EXPOSURE TO 02 MINIMIZING INJURY SEVERITY HAZARDS 03 04 ACT AS A PROMOTING A BARRIER SAFETY CULTURE Power plants require a comprehensive PPE matrix that outlines the specific equipment needed for different job roles and work activities. This matrix helps ensure the right protection is provided for the hazards associated with each task. TYPES OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PROTECTIVE CLOTHING 01 Protective clothing is used to: Protect individuals from the risks of injury and infection while minimizing exposure to chemical, biological, and physical hazards. TYPES OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT ARC FLASH HEAD PROTECTION 02 Arc flash personal protective equipment (PPE) is a combination of clothing and safety equipment worn for protection from arc flash and shock hazards by a person performing electrical work. TYPES OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT RUBBER VOLTAGES 03 GLOVES Electrical rubber gloves, also known as high voltage or kV gloves, are protective gloves made of rubber. TYPES OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FR CONTROL 2.0 04 CLOTHING FR Control 2.0 clothing is designed to be comfortable in various conditions, both indoors and outdoors. CASE STUDY ON SAFETY INCIDENTS Hydrogen Explosion Location; Muskingum, Ohio Around 9 a.m. on January 8, 2007 The Chernobyl disaster: On April 25 and 26, 1986, the worst nuclear accident in history unfolded in what is now northern Ukraine as a reactor at a nuclear power plant exploded and burned.
