**PRONOUNS** - words that take the place of nouns. - they help avoid repetition and make sentences more concise. **TYPES OF PRONOUNS** 1. **Personal Pronouns** - refer to the speaker, the person spoken to, or the person or thing spoken about. - **Subjective Case**: I, you, he, she, it, we, they - **Objective Case**: me, you, him, her, it, us, them - **Possessive Case**: mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs 2. **Possessive Adjectives** - show ownership or possession. - My dog is playing in the yard. 3. **Reflexive Pronouns** - Refer back to the subject of the sentence. - He hurt himself. 4. **Intensive Pronouns** - Emphasize the noun or pronoun they refer to. - I did it myself. 5. **Demonstrative Pronouns** - Point to specific things. - This is my favorite color. 6. **Interrogative Pronouns** - Used to ask questions. - Who is going to the party? 7. **Relative Pronouns** - Introduce relative clauses (clauses that provide more information about a noun). - The woman who lives next door is a doctor. 8. **Indefinite Pronouns** - Refer to nonspecific people or things. - Everyone is invited to the party. - **PROPER NOUNS -** Specific names for people, places, organizations, or things. - Always capitalized. **TYPES OF PROPER NOUNS** 1. **Names of People** - Given names (first names) and surnames (last names) of individuals. Streets, avenues, parks, buildings. 3. **Names of Organizations** - Companies, corporations, institutions, government bodies, political parties. Schools, universities, hospitals. 4. **Names of Days, Months, Holidays** - Specific days of the week. Specific months of the year. 5. **Names of Books, Movies, Songs, etc**. - Titles of creative works. 6. **Names of Brands and Products** - Specific names given to products or services by companies. - **COMMON NOUNS** - General names for people, places, things, or ideas. - Not capitalized unless they begin a sentence. **TYPES OF COMMON NOUNS** 1. **Concrete Nouns** - Refer to things that can be perceived by the senses (seen, touched, heard, smelled, tasted). Examples: 2. **Abstract Nouns** - Refer to ideas, qualities, emotions, or concepts that cannot be directly perceived by the senses.
