Cathartic effect of magnesium sulfate Cathartic effect of magnesium sulfate Purpose and Mechanism  Purpose: Observe cathartic effect of magnesium sulfate and disclose its mechanism  Mechanism: After oral administration of magnesium sulfate, magnesium ions (Mg2+) and sulfate ion form a high osmotic pressure in the intestine, and inhibit the absorption of water, thereby enlarging intestinal lumen volume and promoting intestine peristalsis ,leading to cathartic effect. Observation content ( 观察指标 )  (1) The advance percentage of carmine: Advance percentage of carmine (%) = the moving distance of carmine in bowel / the total length of the intestine×100%  (2)Fecal form and features: solid, shape; sparse, shapeless Materials ,methods and procedure Materials: mice, carmine solution, syringe, scissors, electronic balance, carmine-magnesium sulfate solution Experimental procedure (1)First step: every group selected two mouse, and weigh and label them with picric acid. One is named A,the other is B. (2)Second step: Administer the drug and observe  A is orally given o.8ml carmine-saline solution, B is orally given 0.8ml carmine- magnesium sulfate solution Intragastric administration Method  syringe-fed carmine-saline solution  syringe-fed carmine-magnesium sulfate solution  Mice were fed via intragastric gavage using the Gastric lavage with a ball-tipped feeding needle.  The feeding needle was placed into the stomach of mouse through the pharynx and esophagus along oral palate. (3)Third step: record the data and analyze cathartic effect of magnesium sulfate Table cathartic effect of magnesium sulfate Grou Drug Advance percentage of Fecal traits p carmine (%) 1 Carmine solution 2 Carmine magnesium sulfate solution Intragastric administration by gavage method is key
