# Tutankhamun's Tomb Discovery ## Howard Carter's Account (Source A) Howard Carter's 1923 account describes the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. He and his team slowly cleared debris from the passageway. Eventually, they reached a doorway; they saw "wonderful things" like gold, statues, and other artifacts. The account emphasizes the awe and wonder experienced by Carter and those around him. ## Tutankhamun's Chamber (Source B & C) Figure 3.10 shows Howard Carter excavating the tomb. Inside the chamber, richly decorated golden shrines surrounded a sarcophagus with spells inscribed on the quartzite sarcophagus and various decorations of figurines and objects. ## Description of the Excavation (Source C) The description from Smithsonian Magazine (Source C) explains that the uncovering process initially revealed golden shrines that were nested.
