Umm Al-Qura University Faculty of Public Health and Health Informatics Health Promotion and Education Department Community Health Education Report Writing Dr. Mohamed Osman Contents of the lecture Prerequisites of Good Report Writing Principles of Report Writing Sections of the Report Introduction • Report writing needed to document the outcomes of existing programs. • Evaluation reports are useful tools for lobbying, advocacy, soliciting funds, and raising awareness. Introduction • The evaluation report reflects the outcomes of the program and also the evaluator’s ability to communicate the findings. • The information compiled in the report is used to make policy decisions. Evaluation Report • Evaluation reports are written for: – Supervisors; – Donors; – community stakeholders; – And most ourselves. importantly for Evaluation Report  Reporting is a very important tool for: – Information sharing; – Awareness raising; – Reflecting on the major issues; – Documenting and systematizing Writing the Evaluation Report • Remember to include feedback from the community when writing up the report. • Make sure the information that you are presenting is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely). Evaluation Report • The report should be: – Clear and concise. – The presented facts are reliable and accurate. – The report should document the entire process of the project. – Make sure the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned are clearly identified. END Prerequisites to Good Report Writing 1- A Solid Evaluation Plan include: • Measurable program objectives; • Stakeholders; • Evaluation questions; • Predetermined methods for assessing the program objectives; • A time line. Prerequisites to Good Report Writing 2- Agency or stakeholder involvement: – Community partners that actively support the program; – Funders; – Local public health agencies; – Community coalitions; – Schools. (End) Principles of Report Writing 1- Visual Appearance:  Focusing on layout;  Using combination of text and graphics;  Add headers and sub-headers;  Language: short sentences, and use of an active voice.
