# Ethics and Professionalism ## أداب وقوانين المهنة ### Lecture (6) ## Standards of Physical Therapy Services Dr. Asmaa Saed Shahawy Lecturer in Pediatric Department Faculty of Physical Therapy Pharos University [email protected] ## Lecture Content - Physical therapy services - Standards of physical therapy services ### Physical Therapy Services It is an organized unit providing physical therapy by qualified physical therapist and appropriate supportive personnel. ( موظفين داعمين مناسبين ) ### Standards of Practice There are eleven standards that define the practice of physical therapy. ## Standard (1): - There is a written statement of the purpose for the physical therapy services. - It defines the goals of physiotherapy as related to the needs of patients and community. - It must be re-evaluated regularly by physical therapy staff. ## Standard (2): Physical therapy is under the direction of qualified and supportive physical therapy staff that helps the physical therapist in providing effective services. ## Standard (3): Physical therapy facility is constructed and equipped to provide adequate space and proper environment to meet professional, educational and administrative needs if the service in a safety and efficient way. ## Standard (4): Equipment are available in the quantity and quality to fulfill the needs and purposes of the services. ## Standard (5): - There is a written organizational plan for physical therapy services. - The plan should be compatible with the purpose of the institution and the services. - It must be reviewed annually and revised as necessary. ## Standard (6): Financial management of physical therapy services is based on sound accounting principles " مبادئ محاسبية سليمة " that will develop and maintain stability of the services. ## Standard ( 7): - A plan of care for each patient is developed by the physical therapist in consultation with the referring physician " القائم بالتحويل ". - It must be written including evaluation, goals of treatment, and procedure. ## Standard (8): Coordination " التنسيق " of the physical therapy care within the service and with the other services is very important to provide an effective treatment for the patient. ## Standard (9): There must be a written plan for the program of continuing education for all personnel " تعليم العاملين" within the physical therapy service. It must include professional meetings, conferences, and short courses. ## Standard (10): - The physical therapy service must have a program for _assessment of the quality_ of all aspects of the service. - Assessment should occur at regular intervals. ## Standard (11): - Physical therapy services should participate in the _research projects_ for improving patient care and for the development of physical therapy as a profession. - The extend and type of research project depends on the qualification of the staff " مؤهلات الموظفين " the variability of the facilities, equipment, and finances. " تنوع المرافق والمعدات والتمويل "
