Jenny Theodore Prof. Soliman AMH2020 10/09/2023 Both democracy as well as antidemocratic preferences were taken up into the social and political movement also known as progressivism, which was first developed within the USA throughout the late 19th and then the start of the 20th centuries. Although progressivism wanted to defend those basic rights regarding individuals in labor while enacting changes in society, it frequently showed power as well as superiority.  The essay will take a look at how the democratic and anti-democratic forces were present during progressivism era.  Progressivism\'s aim is to have better involvement in politics as democracy being among the political drives. In order to have the executive branch fairer and more open to the American people, Democrats pushed towards a direct vote in the selection regarding the Senate.  Democrats also promoted efforts like recounts as well as voting polls. With the goal to promote greater participation of the citizens into making political choices.  By these acts, progressivism aimed at increasing democracy, and which gives citizens a greater power. Progressive thinking, still, included anti-democratic tendencies.  A belief in professionals and knowledge that contributed into an elite mindset became a key component of the organization.  The progressives believed only a small number of people had the ability and understanding for making judgments in which would benefit civilization overall.  Since this focused authority in the control  of certain individuals, this idea of \"the wise authority\" contradicted the democratic foundation regarding equal opportunity and also involvement.  By placing rules and limitations upon the actions of others, progressivism also showed protective traits. For an instance, the progressivism-related aimed was against the the making and consuming of liquor.  Although it tried to strengthen citizen morality as well as their well-being, it actually challenged the democratic principles regarding the people's personal freedom by limiting personal freedoms as well as decisions.  In conclusion, neither democratic nor antidemocratic beliefs were 100% present all through the progressivism era. Progressivism showed inequality as well As dominance despite the fact that it tried to increase participation and engagement.  In order to evaluate both the progressivisim movement\'s role in the American mindset as well as its current importance in today\'s politics as a whole it has become essential to recognize and understand both sides of progressivism.
