Yin-Yang Concept

  • Yin and Yang are two opposing and interdependent forces that are constantly interacting and transforming.
  • They are present in all things and represent different phases of a cyclical movement, as well as different states of density of matter.

Yin-Yang Relationship

  • Yin and Yang are opposite but interdependent, mutually consume each other, and intertransform.
  • They are not independent entities, but rather two sides of the same coin.

  • Head is Yang, body is Yin.
  • Exterior is Yang, Interior is Yin.

  • Opposition is expressed in pairs such as fire-water, heat-cold, redness-paleness, restless-quiet, dry-wet, hard-soft, excitement-inhibition, rapidity-slowness, substantial- non-substantial, and transformation/change-conservation/storage/sustainment.
  • Interdependence is evident in the balance between Yin and Yang organs.
  • Mutual Consumption of Yin and Yang leads to imbalances in the body. Excess of Yin or Yang can lead to a consumption of one force by the other.
  • Intertransformation refers to the constant changes happening between Yin and Yang, where one can transform into the other.
