History of USC
- Founded in 1595 by Spanish Jesuit Missionaries
- Originally named Colegio de San Ildefonso
- Initially located in Calle Enrile-Serrano for Spanish, Chinese, and Visayan boys
- Renamed to Real Seminario de San Carlos in 1779 by King Charles III of Spain
- Dominicans took over in 1852 and renamed it Seminario Conciliar de San Carlos
- Vincentian Fathers took over in 1867
- Became Colegio de San Carlos (CSC) in 1911
- Became a University in 1948 and renamed to University of San Carlos (USC)
San Carlos Borromeo and SVD Saints
- St.Charles Borromeo is the Patron Saint of USC
- St.Arnold Janssen founded the SVD in 1875
- St.Joseph Freinandanitz was one of the first two missionaries of the SVD to China
Society of the Divine Word (SVD)
- International order of Roman Catholic brothers, priests, and more than 6,000 members in 67 countries
- Founded by St.Arnold Janssen in Steyl, Holland on September 8, 1875
- The Philippines was the last country where SVD missionaries were sent by St.Arnold in August 15, 1909 in Pilar, Abra.
