Study Notes
- Non-exempt employees who work more than 37.5 hours in a week can accumulate compensatory time, but it must be used within the pay period and with prior approval from the Library Director.
- Employees must take a lunch break of at least 30 minutes if they work 6 hours or more in a day, which is unpaid and on their own time. They may use the staff lounge or leave the building. A 15-minute break is given for every 3.5 hours worked and is on Library time.
- Employees are expected to clock in and out for their shifts, breaks, and absences, except for breaks under 30 minutes which are paid.
- Excused absences must be reported to the manager at least 1 hour before the shift start time and can be due to illness, approved vacation, or other reasons. Employees may be required to provide documentation for lengthy absences.
- Unexcused absences include reporting late for a shift or missing a shift without prior approval from the manager. Part-time staff can exceed their 45 hours of unpaid sick time and cannot substitute unpaid vacation time for unpaid sick time.
- Excused tardiness means contacting the manager before the shift start time, while unexcused tardiness refers to not contacting the manager and clocking in more than 5 minutes late.
- A no call/no show occurs when an employee does not report for a scheduled shift and does not alert the manager. Two no call/no shows in a row result in termination.
