Unit 1: Table Creation in Word

  • Students should be able to create a timetable of their class in Word
  • Students should be able to design a greeting card using page borders and other options

  • 1.1 Inserting Tables

    • 1.1.1 Selecting Number of Rows and Columns
      • Use table templates to insert a table based on a preformatted gallery
      • Templates contain sample data to visualize the table
      • Click where you want to insert the table, then, in the Insert tab, Tables group, click Table, point to Quick Tables and select the template
    • 1.1.2 Inserting New Row and Column
      • Procedure for inserting rows or columns:
        • Click in the row above or below the targeted cell
        • Under Table Tools, on Layout tab and do one of the following:
          • Insert Above to add row above
          • Insert Below to add row below
        • Click in the cell left or right of the target
        • Under Table Tools, on Layout tab and do one of the following:
          • Insert Left to add column to the left
          • Insert Right to add column to the right
    • 1.1.3 Merging Cells
      • Combine two or more cells into a single cell (horizontally or vertically)
      • Select the cells you want to merge
      • Under Table Tools, in the Layout tab and click Merge Cells

      • Remove table borders by clicking No Border under the Table Styles group
  • 1.2 Draw Table

    • Draw a table with specific dimensions, or with varying column and row heights
    • Click where you want to draw the table, then in the Insert tab, click Table and choose Draw Table.
    • The pointer changes to a pencil
    • Draw outer rectangle and individual column and row lines
    • Click Eraser to remove lines or area
    • Once done drawing, start typing in a cell or add a graphic
