Windows Overview

  • Windows is a multi-tasking system that allows for extended problem-solving capabilities and more overheads, storing data and files of the entire system in one place.

Windows Taskbar

  • The Windows Taskbar is a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen that contains icons, windows, and current working documents/applications.
  • There are two types of Windows Taskbar displays: one with the clock on the right (e.g., Windows 95) and one with the clock on the left (e.g., Windows NT).

Start Button

  • The Start button is the most important part of the Windows Taskbar, showing recently used programs and documents.
  • It allows users to access all programs and documents.

Features of Operating System

  • Text-based: older versions of Windows are completely text-based.
  • GUI (Graphical User Interface): a visual interface for interacting with the operating system.
  • File and Directory Organization: a system for managing files and directories.
