Study Notes

Heat: A Form of Energy

  • Heat, also known as thermal energy, is a form of energy that can be transferred from one object to another.
  • Heat always flows from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature.
  • When heat is added to a substance, it becomes hot, whereas removing heat from an object makes it cold.
  • Heat can be converted into other forms of energy, such as mechanical energy, and vice versa.

Effects of Heat on Matter

  • Heat can cause expansion in objects.
  • Heat can bring about various changes in matter, including changes observed in Activity 4.1.
  • Heat is capable of killing microorganisms, as demonstrated by scientific experiments.
