Introduction of a Weighbridge System for Cargo Inspection and Processing at Eswatini Siding Project
- The Eswatini Siding Project has invested in a weighbridge system to assist Cargo Inspectors and Weighbridge Entry Clerks in processing inbound and outbound trucks.
- The high-level process involves an inspection of the transporter truck and cross-referencing of the mine ticket versus what is on the manifest.
- The process starts at the staging area where trucks are inspected by Cargo Inspector and then weighed by an Entry Clerk at the weighbridge.
- The objective is to ensure all cargo have been processed lawfully under customs regulation when moved across the borders.
- Customs documents advise among other things, what product is being shipped, who is the transporter, driver, what are the weights and where the product is going.
- Eswatini Siding processes over 100 trucks a day and all trucks and the product carried need to be verified, recorded into our system, and offloaded at relevant site stockpiles.
- Trucks at the staging area queue and wait their turn to be inspected, weighed up, and allowed to offload the product.
- Cargo Inspectors use an app to start the inspection process and Entry Clerks use the weighbridge office system to capture and record all truck weight information.
- The entry clerk at the weighbridge office will request the Bill of Entry document pack from the driver and scan the CAR number on the manifest to pull the system information.
- In rare instances where details do not match, the truck is instructed to go to the quarantine area and escalated to the supervisor to start the investigation process.
- A Cargo Inspector that completes a Pre-Weighbridge Check-In cannot complete DROPOFF.
- Once the truck has offloaded, it will need to weigh the empty truck before leaving the site.
