The Web and Internet are not the same
Web is a network of web pages accessed through link addresses
Internet is a global network of computers
Internet is made up of both wired and wireless networks such as copper telephone wires, TV cables, fiber optic cables, Wi-Fi, and 3G/4G

Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989
Berners-Lee's idea was to combine computers, data networks, and hypertext into a global information system
Berners-Lee wrote a proposal for the Web in 1989 and 1990
The first Web server and browser were developed by Berners-Lee at CERN in 1990
The first website went live on August 6, 1991 at http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html
The website included links to the WWW project, including a hypertext, technical information about the server, and other web servers

In 1991, WWW software became available to colleagues at CERN
