WCAG 2.1

WCAG 2.1 is an extension of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, providing updated guidelines for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

New Success Criteria in WCAG 2.1

WCAG 2.1 introduces 17 new success criteria, which are organized into two categories:

Cognitive and Learning Disabilities
  • 3.2.6 Findable Help: Web pages contain links to resources that provide help for using the content.
  • 3.3.5 Help: Help mechanisms are available for users who need them.
  • 4.1.3 Status Messages: Status messages can be programmatically determined through role or properties.
Mobile Accessibility
  • 1.3.4 Orientation: Content does not restrict its view and operation to a single display orientation.
  • 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose: The purpose of each input field can be programmatically determined.
  • 1.4.10 Reflow: Content can be presented in a different display orientation without loss of information or functionality.
  • 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast: Visual information used to convey the state or property of an interactive element can be presented in a way that is perceivable by users with visual impairments.
  • 1.4.12 Text Spacing: Users can adjust line spacing, paragraph spacing, and letter spacing to at least 1.5 times the font size.
  • 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus: Additional content that appears on hover or focus can be dismissed without moving the pointer or leaving the keyboard focus.
