    Study Notes

    Water Supply Operations

    • Tankers: E-111 (2,000 gallons), T-110 (2,500 gallons), T-78 (6,000 gallons)
    • Total Tanker Capacity: 10,500 gallons for all three tankers

    Relay Pumping

    • Primary method: Reverse lay (unless circumstances dictate otherwise)
    • LDH (Large Diameter Hose): All engines and pumping tankers have 1,100 ft of LDH, with the last 100 ft marked red.
    • Apparatus Speed Laying LDH: 5-10 mph. Keep in mind incoming apparatus need access to the scene.
    • Engine Requirement: For every 1,100 ft of LDH laid, an engine is needed to relay/tandem pump.
    • Forward Lay Greater than 1,100 ft: Requires an engine at the hydrant to pump the LDH lines.
    • Hydrant Engine Minimum Intake Pressure: 20 psi
    • Engine Discharge Pressure: 80 psi to 100 psi (to avoid activation of the "intake pressure relief valve" of the receiving engine)

Nurse Ops (Preferred if no hydrants available)

    • First Arriving Engine: Straight lays LDH supply line.
    • Tankers: Connect 2-3 sections of 3" supply line (50 ft each) to allow uninterrupted water flow while tankers disconnect.
    • Receiving Engine Notification: 3 horn blasts or radio to start water flow.
    • "Water Supply" Established: Once the tankers have sent water.
