Checking Brakes
- Brakes should feel firm and not spongy or slack.
- Test brakes as you set off.
- Vehicle should not pull to one side.
Checking Tyre Pressure
- Refer to the manufacturer's guide for recommended tyre pressures.
- Check and adjust pressure using a pressure gauge when tyres are cold.
- Do not forget to check the spare tyre.
- Remember to refit the valve caps.
Adjusting Head Restraints
- Adjust the head restraint so that the rigid part is as high as your eye or top of your ears.
- Make sure that the restraint is as close as possible to the back of your head, while still being comfortable.
- Some restraints might not be adjustable in some cars.
Checking Tyre Tread Depth
- Ensure there are no cuts or bulges in the tyres
- Minimum tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tyre.
- Ensure there is 1.6mm of tread depth around the entire outer circumference of the tyre.

- Turn on the ignition if necessary.
- Operate the switch to turn on the lights.
- Walk around the vehicle to check that all the lights are working.

- Check that the coolant level sits between the high and low level markings.
- Only add coolant when the engine is cold.
- Do not add coolant while the engine is hot as it could cause serious injury.

- Locate the brake fluid reservoir.
- Check the fluid level against the markings on the reservoir.
- If the fluid is low, top it up with the correct type of brake fluid.
