Chapter 7 Kitting and Value-Added Services

• A VAS order contains a header, items, and activities.

VAS Order Header

• Contains the packaging specification determined by the system.
• Contains the inbound delivery or warehouse request generated for kit receipt.

VAS Items

• Components to be consumed in certain quantities.
• Auxiliary products are also listed as items.

VAS Activities

• Includes information about the kit header product and the relevant VAS work center.
• Includes process steps to be performed and required packaging materials.
• A packaging specification is a prerequisite data element to create VAS orders, and contains the activities to be performed for kitting.
• BOM is not mandatory to create a VAS order, a list of components can be added to a VAS order manually.
• Scheduling profile is required only for kitting initiated through a production order.
• VAS orders are not mandatory for a kit-to-order process.
• Kitting can be performed as part of packing or during picking, without requiring a special work center

Reverse Kitting Order

• Should be created manually and can be created with or without a BOM.
• Automatically creates an inbound delivery and an outbound delivery when saved.
• Inbound delivery captures the receipt of the dismantled components from the kit.
• Outbound delivery consumes the kit header from stock.
• EWM doesn’t have kit master data.
• For products to be kitted, a BOM is maintained in SAP S/4HANA with the required components.
• Standard product master data should be defined for kit headers and components.
• VAS work center and packaging specification are additional master data to be defined to execute kitting processes.
• Kits can be produced to stock or to delivery when a requirement arises, initiated from SAP S/4HANA through a production order

Kit-to-Stock

• When the production order is released, the system creates inbound and outbound deliveries in SAP S/4HANA that are replicated to EWM
• A VAS order is created automatically to perform kitting activities and receive kit-to-stock products. For internal kitting in a warehouse, a VAS order can be created directly in EWM
• Kitting activities occur in the VAS work center, and the kit is received to stock.

Kit-to-Order During Picking

• Can be implemented with no special activities, with kitting instructions added in a warehouse request’s long text for user reference.

Production Order Status

• When a production order is released for a material with a scheduling profile that has kit-to-stock in EWM enabled, the system creates an inbound delivery and outbound delivery automatically.
• The system updates the production order’s status with the status LFAN (deliveries created) to confirm the creation of inbound and outbound deliveries for kitting.
• To create a VAS order manually, a VAS order type is mandatory.
• A VAS order type contains an order category, which differentiates between kitting and reverse kitting.
• A VAS order type also contains the inbound and outbound delivery document types and items for automatic creation of these documents.
• The procedure to determine the packaging specification at the creation of the VAS order is assigned to VAS order type.
• If backflushing of the components is allowed, this feature can be enabled in the VAS order type.
• In kit-to-order during picking, when a pick HU is confirmed, the system adds kit header material to the pick HU.
• Once the HU is transferred to the goods issue zone, the kit is received to stock and issued to the outbound delivery of the sales order.
• The kit receipt is posted with movement type 521, which is a goods receipt without reference to a production order.
• The transaction is a dummy transaction to build the stock, and the kit header is issued to the sales order delivery.
• VAS are used where the warehouse can perform additional activities without the help of manufacturing, like assembling a kit when a demand arises.
• While executing VAS orders, VAS activities specify the duration they require, confirmations can be posted with the actual time consumed to complete the specific VAS activity.
• The system automatically determines the auxiliary products to be consumed in a VAS order based on the packaging specification definition.

BOM

• VAS orders can be created with or without BOMs, maintained in SAP S/4HANA, and the same BOM is used in the VAS order
• System allows manual addition of components to the VAS order if a BOM doesn’t exist.

Kitting Process

• Kit-to-stock is created to build kits and store them in the warehouse, reverse kitting is used to dismantle a kit and put its components back into stock
• Kit-to-order is another process that is triggered to kit a product when demand is created from a sales order. A production scheduling profile should be configured to enable kit-to-stock in EWM.
• When a production order is created for a product, which has a production scheduling profile with kit-to-stock flag, the system creates an outbound delivery for kit component consumptions and an inbound delivery for kit component receipt.
• A VAS order is created by determining the packaging specification, executable with inbound or outbound processes.
• VAS orders are created with reference to outbound delivery orders in the case of outbound processing.
