Mayday Quick Reference Sheet
- Acknowledge the Mayday by confirming the location, identity of the firefighter, problem, and crew status
- Order radio silence and request Toronto Fire to announce the Mayday
- Assign RIT and request additional personnel to establish a new RIT and hit Bnechmarks
RIT Deployment
- Utilize crews in the vicinity to locate and assist the distressed firefighter
- Brief and deploy the RIT, and request additional personnel to quickly establish a new RIT
- Use radio silence protocol or Channel 16 if necessary
- Ensure one DVRS is activated on Channel 16
Radio Communication
- IC (or Entry Control) conducts partial/full PAR on Channel 16
- IC runs the incident on Channel 16, monitoring the original incident channel
- If another Mayday is received on Channel 16, use radio silence protocol
- Notify Toronto Fire to announce the conclusion of the Mayday
RITSO Responsibilities
- RITSO is assigned when a RIT deployment is required or at incidents with multiple RITs
- RITSO is a forward position, requiring PPE
- RITSO runs the RIT Sector on the original incident channel and answers for Command
- Ensure RIT is located appropriately and fully equipped
- Monitor incident radio channel and co-ordinate proactive fireground operations
RIT Deployment Procedures
- Brief RIT prior to entry (where possible) and deploy RIT
- Upon deployment, request additional RIT and establish RIT Entry Control
- Locate the PIT(s) of all downed firefighters and place the downed firefighter(s) PIT at the bottom of the entry board
- Relocate RIT PITs and metal tags to the bottom of the entry board with the downed firefighter(s)
RIT Benchmarks and Communication
- Provide regular timeline reports (on-air time) for deployed RIT
- Communicate with those assisting in the rescue, RIT(s), and downed FF/crew on the original incident channel
- Ensure RIT Benchmarks are achieved and announced:
- RIT Deployed (e.g. RIT 312 deployed)
- Firefighter located (use FF name)
- Firefighter outside (use FF name)
- Request necessary resources to support RIT and monitor Rehab needs
- Update IC and Toronto Fire as required, and ensure TEMS is staged close for medical assistance
