Toronto Fire Services Benchmarks

  • Toronto Fire Services use radio communication phrases, called benchmarks, to indicate the status of events at an incident.
  • Benchmarks enable efficient operations and standardized terminology.

Purposes of Benchmarks

  • Inform Command that a specific task has been completed.
  • Allow recording on the running log/worksheet.
  • Enable time stamping on the radio communication recordings.
  • Provide Command with progress indicators of the incident.

Benchmark Definitions

360 Complete

  • Indicates that the 360 has been completed, with relevant information for responding crews.

A2

  • Calculates the true response time for events by tracking the time between a responding emergency vehicle's arrival at the scene and the crew's arrival at the incident location.

Arrived at the Patient Location

  • Indicates the time crews have reached the patient after arrival on the scene at a medical emergency.

Evac Announcements Have Been Made

  • Voice communication systems have been used to communicate essential information to occupants.

Application of Agent or Decision to Defer

  • The time at which extinguishing agent is initially applied to a fire or the decision to defer application is made.
