Social psychology is the scientific study of the way in which people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the real or imagined presence of other people. It is interested in understanding relationships, how they are formed and maintained, and the study of attitudes- why people do the things they do. Social psychology is always around us even if we are by ourselves, and is interested in cognition- we have brains that allow us to process information from our environment. It helps us understand why people make certain judgements, how that judgements makes us interact with other people, and will tell us what to do about it--> helps explain social behaviour. It is also interested in social influence- social conformity--> people follow along to fit in. Our behaviour alone can be very different from our behaviour in a group- also studies group processes.
