- Henri Fayol (1841-1925) developed the concept of management principles and the POLC framework.
- Management principles serve as guidelines for decision-making.
- The POLC (Planning, Organizing, Leading, Controlling) framework remains the dominant management framework.
The POLC framework includes
- Planning defines the organization's vision and mission, sets goals, strategizes, and creates action plans.
- Organizing formulates the organizational structure, allocates resources, and designs jobs.
- Leading involves leadership, direction, motivation, coordination, and communication.
- Controlling establishes processes and standards, reviews and evaluates performance, and takes corrective action.
Principles of Management

- Authority and responsibility - Authority is the right to give orders. Responsibility involves being answerable for self and others' performance.
