Types of Musical Instruments
- There are 4 types of musical instruments in total.
- Tantu Vadya: Stringed instruments, also known as Chordophones
- Sushir Vadya: Wind instruments, also known as Aerophones
- Avanaddha Vadya: Percussion instruments, also known as Membranophones
- These instruments have stretched membranes of animal skin to vibrate and produce sound when struck
- Ghana Vadya: Idiophone, it vibrates when struck
- Examples include Ghatam and Manjira
Kamaicha, Chinkara, Pena and Kartal
- Kamaicha is a bowed flute played by the Manganiars of West Rajasthan
- Chinkara is a stringed instrument played popularly in Madhya Pradesh
- Pena is a traditional binding instrument played in Manipur
- Kartal from Rajasthan comes under Idiophones

- Pt. Ravi Shankar is a Sitar exponent
