Computer networks involve connecting various computing devices and enabling efficient communication between them. There are two primary ways to establish connections in computer networks: wired and wireless. For wired connections, dedicated physical links or cables are utilized, while wireless connections leverage radio waves or electromagnetic waves. Both wired and wireless networks play vital roles in enabling seamless communication and interaction among devices.

Types of Computer Networks

Computer networks can be categorized into different types based on their reach and scale, including:

• Local Area Networks (LAN): Connects computers over a relatively short distance, allowing file sharing and resource pooling, commonly found in small communities, offices, homes, schools, and other limited areas.
• Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN): Similar to LANs but utilizes wireless connections between devices, such as Wi-Fi.
• Wide Area Networks (WAN): Connects computers over wide areas, spanning cities, regions, or even continents, encompassing the internet.
• Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN): Primarily used by cities and government entities, connecting computers within a specific metropolitan region.
• Personal Area Networks (PAN): Serves individuals, connecting multiple devices close to a person, such as a smartphone and laptop.

These network types vary in their composition, protocols, geographical extent, and purposes, catering to both local and global communication needs.
