Different Types of Bandages

Bandages are essential for wound care, providing support, compression, and protection from infection. They come in various types made of different materials, each with specific uses and application techniques. Here are some of the most common types of bandages and their uses:

Crepe Bandages (Gauze Bandages)

Compression Bandages

Compression bandages are designed to provide even pressure to the skin and underlying tissues. They are often used for managing swelling or supporting soft tissue injuries.

Snake Bite Bandages

Specifically designed for snake bite treatment, these bandages are intended to immobilize the affected limb and prevent further venom spread. They are typically made of a strong, elastic material that can stretch and compress without restricting blood flow.

Triangular Bandages

Triangular bandages can be used as large dressings, slings to support a limb, or to secure a dressing in place. When used as a sling on an arm, the bandage is used opened out. For lower limbs or large dressings, fold the bandage in half horizontally and then in half again to create a broad strip.

Tubular Bandages

Tubular bandages come in seamless fabric tubes and are used to hold dressings on fingers or toes or support injured joints. Elasticated ones can be placed over joints such as the ankle, while ones made of tubular gauze can be placed over fingers or toes.

Cohesive Bandages

Cohesive bandages are made of self-adhesive material, allowing for secure wrapping of injured areas without the need for bandage clips or adhering to hair or skin. They offer high conformability and elasticity, making them suitable for stabilizing joints, holding dressings in place, and supporting soft tissue injuries.
