• Nature: Subcategory of technical texts, sharing common features with medical, physics texts and economics.
• Characteristics:
  • Lexical Features: Specialized language, accurate definitions, economic use of linguistic means, readability factors from writer, text, and reader.
  • Informative Language: Impersonal style, declarative sentences.
  • Metaphors: Used to explain ideas (e.g., "low-hanging fruit," "lots of moving parts," "boiling the ocean").
  • Terminologies: Domain-specific terms (e.g., management, finance, marketing)
  • Facts and Presentation: One main feature to present facts accurately (e.g. "The price of crude...").
  • Syntactic Features:
    • Simple Sentences: To reduce misunderstanding
    • Nominalization: Forming nouns from verbs or adjectives to create a formal style.
    • Abstract Nouns and Gerunds: Common in technical texts
