Tim Berners-Lee and the World Wide Web
- Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, invented the World Wide Web in 1991.
- He made it accessible to the world for free.
- His early interest began in 1955
- He was interested in computers and worked as a programmer at the Ferranti, the first general purpose computer.
- He later went to Oxford University to study physics, and built his own homemade computer there.
- In 1980, while working at CERN, he developed ENQUIRE.
- ENQUIRE could store information and track connections, laying the foundation for the World Wide Web.
- The program demonstrated connection possibilities amongst people and projects within CERN, and also on computers globally.
- In 1989, he proposed a hypertext system called the World Wide Web.
