Overview of the Nervous System and Spinal Nerves
- The Nervous system is composed of the Central Nervous System (CNS) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS).
- The CNS consists of the Spinal Cord and the Brain, including the cerebral hemisphere, diencephalon, mesencephalon, pons, medulla oblongata, and spinal cord.
- The Spinal Cord is divided into 31 pairs of Spinal Nerves, categorized as Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar, Sacral, and Coccygeal.
- Each Spinal Nerve has both an Anterior and a Posterior route.
- The Posterior route contains Motor Fibers, while the Anterior route contains Sensory Fibers.
- The Sensory Fibers in the Spinal Nerve's Anterior route are found in the Dorsal Root Ganglion, which contains Unipolar Neurons.
- The Motor Fibers in the Spinal Nerve's Posterior route are composed of Multipolar Neurons.
- The Cervical Spinal Nerves are the first 8 pairs, labeled as C1-C8.
- The Thoracic Spinal Nerves are the next 12 pairs, labeled as T1-T12.
- The Lumbar Spinal Nerves are the next 5 pairs, labeled as L1-L5.
- The Sacral Spinal Nerves are the next 5 pairs, labeled as S1-S5.
- The Coccygeal Spinal Nerve is the last pair, labeled as 1.
