Responsibilities
- The Administrative Battalion Chief for Safety is responsible for ensuring TFD employees know the content of this document and for maintaining this document.
- All TFD personnel must abide by the rules in this document.
Definitions
- Health Care Providers: Doctors of medicine or osteopathy authorized to practice in the state
- Includes state licensed professionals like podiatrists, dentists, clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, optometrists, chiropractors (limited to certain spinal manipulations), nurse practitioners, and nurse-midwives.
- Includes Christian Science practitioners listed with the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts.
- Any other health care provider recognised by the employer's group health plan benefits manager.
- WAC: Washington State Administrative Code
- Workplace: Any place where an individual is employed for labor or service and where the employer has access or control
- Includes fire grounds and other emergency scenes.

General Guidelines For TFD Employees
- Must comply with WAC 296-305.
- Must comply with applicable TFD policies, procedures, and special orders.
- Must cooperate with the TFD Safety Program and other employees to eliminate workplace accidents.
- Must apply accident prevention principles.
- Must attend required safety training and orientation programs when on duty.
- Must immediately notify supervisors of unsafe work practices/conditions.
- Must report on-the-job injuries/illnesses to supervisors per TFD Policy 5013.
- TFD employees cannot remove/damage any safety device in the workplace.
- TFD employees cannot interfere with any safety device or method used by TFD.
- Failure to follow safety regulations may result in disciplinary action.
Equipment and Practices
- All TFD employees must: use required personal protective equipment and safety devices provided by TFD management, follow safety practices developed by TFD management.
- Take proper care of all personal protective equipment.
- Maintain equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
Alchohol and Drugs
- TFD employees cannot participate in any TFD operation or function while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
- Working while taking prescription drugs is allowed if directed by a Health Care Provider and it does not endanger the employee or others.
