- Candidates eligible for veteran's preference points may file a written application within 10 days of the initial posting of the preliminary promotion list.
- The Board of Commissioners makes adjustments to the rank order based on veteran's preference points awarded.
- The final promotion list is posted at each fire station no later than 21 days after the expiration of the time period for claiming veteran's preference points.
- Candidates may request a private review session with the Fire Chief and/or his designees(s) to gather feedback on the examination process.
- The final promotion list is effective for a period of two years from the date of its posting.
- Any affected person or party who believes that an error has been made may file a grievance within five calendar days of the date the final promotion list is posted.
- Special Assignment Positions include Director of Training, EMS Coordinator, and Public Education Director.
- The District offers all future and vacant Special Assignment positions to sworn bargaining unit members first.
- Special Assignment members must maintain their certifications for the position and remain in that position for two or three years before becoming eligible to transfer back to 24-hour shifts.
- Special Assignment members may be required to respond to certain types of calls and may be required to be assigned to 24-hour shift assignments to assist in emergency medical services and fire suppression.
- Special Assignment Positions have a 40-hour workweek with 8-hour shifts and an unpaid lunch period of up to 1 hour.
- Special Assignment Positions receive an additional 5% of their base pay and overtime pay at one and a half times their regular hourly rate for hours worked over 40 hours per week.
- Special Assignment Positions receive holiday pay for 9 holidays and vacation time based on years of service, with vacation pay calculated as 8 hours of straight-time hourly pay per vacation day used.
- Special Assignment Positions receive up to 3 days of funeral leave with pay for immediate family members and accrue 80 hours of sick leave per year, with a maximum accrual of 480 hours.
- Special Assignment Positions receive 8 hours of personal time, which is subtracted from their sick bank.
- Current members in Special Assignment Positions as of January 1, 2020, have their benefits defined in an attached appendix to the contract.
- If any provisions of the Agreement are rendered invalid, the remaining parts remain in effect and the subject matter of the invalid provision is open for negotiation.
- Disputed items not resolved during negotiations may be referred to interest arbitration.
- The Agreement must be ratified by the Union membership and the District's Trustees, with the Trustees committing to not enact subsequent ordinances or rules that impair the Agreement's binding effect.
- The Agreement supersedes all prior practices, policies, and agreements and constitutes the complete and entire agreement between the parties for its term, which ends on April 30, 2023, and automatically renews unless modified by mutual agreement or written notice.
