- Each Approved Document contains general guidance on how to comply with the requirements of the Building Regulations.
- If the building is designed in accordance with the guidance in an Approved Document, then the Building Regulations approval must be given.
- There are currently 19 Approved Documents, each containing different guidance on different aspects of building design and construction.
- Anyone carrying out building work which is subject to the Building Regulations is required by law to make sure all works comply with the regulations
- Complying with Building Regulations is a completely separate matter from obtaining Planning Permission
