Upcoming Projects

• Slurry pipeline: A slurry pipeline will be built to transport iron ore from Kalmang to TSK Plant with a capacity of 7 MTPA.
• Infrastructure Future Readiness:
  • Rail Infrastructure: Emphasis on improving rail connectivity with external lines like Angul-Sukinda and Duburi. Enhancements include infrastructure for pellet dispatch from TSK to TSA and intra-plant rail facilities.
  • Augmentation of RMHS (Raw Material Handling System): Plans to install twin tipplers at TSJ, stackers, reclaimers, interconnecting conveyors, and enhance overall efficiency of handling equipment.
  • Augmentation of Transport Parks & Plant Road Logistics Infrastructure: Investing in transport parks and road infrastructure to improve the logistics process.

Sustainability Initiatives

• Electric Vehicles: Tata Steel is deploying electric vehicles for transporting finished steel products, aiming for a reduction of 3500 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year.
• Solar Initiatives: Installation of solar panels at various stockyards aims to increase the reliance on renewable energy.
• Greener Alternate Fuels: Transitioning to LNG-powered vehicles to reduce carbon emissions further.
• Sustainable saddles: Using polymer saddles to maximize material usage and minimize dependency on wood.
• Ramp up of Coastal Dispatches: Increasing coastal movement of products to serve customers directly, leading to about a 25% increase from the previous year.

Ongoing Digital Initiatives

• Transport Management System: A centralized platform for all transportation needs, offering multi-asset and multi-mode planning, cost and service level optimization, and efficient order management.
• Integration with FOIS (Freight Operations Information System): Integration with Indian Railways' central system for efficient monitoring, planning, and paperless operations.
• BOXN/BOBSN Tracking System: A system for tracking containers and wagons.
• STARS (Steel Tracking and Reporting System): A system for collecting and transferring data from various systems for better reporting and analytics.

Overview of Discharge Ports

• Jharia, Haldia Port: Offers the lowest rail freight to TSJ & HMC, good rake availability, but limited handling capacity of large vessels.
• Dhamra Port: Capable of handling Capesize vessels with mechanised handling, located close to TSK, but with limited rake availability.
• Paradip Port & KICT: Close to TSK & TSA, can handle ships upto Babycapes & underloaded capes, but faces rake availability issues to SER zones.
• Vizag Port & Gangavaram Port: Handles larger vessels but facing rail transport challenges to HMC & TSJ.
• Krishnapatnam Port: Used for crisis handling during rail shortages, along with other ports like Kolkata, Gopalpur and Gangavaram.
• Key Ports: Dhamra Port is a key port for TSL and Paradip Port serves TSM & TSK.
• Subarnarekha Port: Under development to meet future growth plans.

Coastal Movement

• Coastline: Leveraging the 5,560 Kms coastline with 11 major ports for efficient movement of goods.
• Current Routes: Paradip/Dhamra to Mumbai.
• Benefits: Lower GHG emissions, ease of handling large coils, and an alternative supply chain.
• Way Ahead: Focus on Subarnarekha Port and cargo in containers.

Shipment of TMT Bars Through Inland Waterways

• Route: Exploring river routes from Haldia/Kolkata to North Eastern region, specifically Agartala, using the India-Bangladesh protocol.
• Trial shipments: Trial shipments from Haldia to Pandu Port and Agartala were successful, demonstrating the feasibility of the route.
• Barges: Steel bars are transported via barges from Haldia, unloaded at Ashuganj, and transported to Agartala by road.

• FY24:
  • First Indian company to publish a GRI-based sustainability report in 2001.
  • First in the Indian steel industry to commission a 5 tonnes per day CO2 capture plant.
