Types of Art
- Tangible Art: physical creations that can be seen, touched, and felt, e.g. paintings, sculptures, art installations, weaved products, pots, urns, structures, wood products, ink drawings, textiles
- Intangible Art: does not have a physical presence, e.g. performances, digital art, conceptual art, oral traditions, expressions, language, performance art, social practices, rituals, and festivities
National Artists Award (NAA)
- Highest form of recognition given to Filipino Artists for their significant contributions in the arts and letters
- Established in 1972 under Presidential Decree No. 1001 issued by then President Ferdinand Marcos
- Criteria for nomination:
- Living artists who have been Filipino citizens for the last ten years prior to nomination
- Artists who have helped build a Filipino sense of nationhood through the content and form of their works
- Artists who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, making an impact on succeeding generations of artists
- Artists who have created a significant body of works and/or have consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art form
- Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through prestigious national and/or international recognition, awards, critical acclaim, and/or respect from peers

Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (National Living Treasures Award)
- Instituted in 1992 by NCCA through R.A. No. 7355
- Recognizes exceptional artists who are engaged in traditional arts
- Not awarded every year
- Criteria for selection:
- Is an inhabitant of an indigenous/traditional cultural community anywhere in the Philippines
- Must have engaged in a folk art tradition that has been in existence and documented for at least 50 years
- Must have consistently performed or produced works of superior and distinctive quality
- Must possess a mastery of tools and materials needed by the art
- Must have passed on and/or will pass on their skills to other members of the community
- Only 25 GAMABA awardees from the categories of weaving, literature, performing arts, and ornamental arts
