National Artists Award (NAA)
- Highest form of recognition given to Filipino artists for significant contributions in arts and letters.
- Established in 1972 under Presidential Decree No. 1001 issued by President Ferdinand Marcos.
- Criteria for selection:
- Living artists who have been Filipino citizens for the last 10 years prior to nomination or those who died after 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death.
- Artists who have helped build a Filipino sense of nationhood through their works.
- Artists who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, making an impact on succeeding generations.
- Artists who have created a significant body of works and/or have consistently displayed excellence in their art form.
- Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through national and/or international recognition.

- Has passed on or will pass on skills to other members of the community.
