TAG QUESTIONS
- Used to confirm information or ask for agreement
- Added at the end of a statement
- Formed with an auxiliary verb (helping verb) and a pronoun
- The auxiliary verb agrees with the main verb in the statement
- Usually, the auxiliary verb is the opposite of the main verb in the statement
- If the statement is positive, the tag question is negative
- If the statement is negative, the tag question is positive
- Use "do" or "does" to form tag questions when the main verb is a simple present tense in the statement (e.g. work, eat, study)
- Use "did" to form tag questions when the main verb is in the simple past tense in the statement (e.g. worked, ate, studied)
- If the statement is in the present perfect, past perfect, future, or any other tense, the tag question is formed using the auxiliary verb from the statement
CORRECTING TAG QUESTIONS
- Subject-verb agreement: The subject of the tag question must agree with the subject of the main statement
- Tense: The tense of the tag question must match the tense of the main statement
- Polarity: The polarity of the tag question (positive or negative) must be the opposite of the main statement
- Correct auxiliary verb: The tag question uses the auxiliary verb from the main statement or "do" / "does" / "did" when needed

- The structure of a tag question with a positive statement is: statement + auxiliary verb + pronoun
