Pelvis Elevation Test
- During the Grade 5 and Grade 4 test, the patient is in a side-lying position.
- The therapist should stand anterior to the patient during the Grade 5 and Grade 4 test.
Grading and Positioning
- A Grade 4 during pelvis elevation is achieved when the pelvis elevates, but not to the full range of motion.
- During the Pelvis Elevation test, the hip is in a neutral position.
- The therapist's hands should be placed on the iliac crest, with the fingers pointing towards the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS).
- The multifidus muscle lies deep to the paraspinal muscle mass and can rarely be palpated during the Pelvis Elevation test.
- The recommended position of the lumbar spine during the Pelvis Elevation test is in neutral or slightly flexed.
- If a patient completes partial range of motion during the Pelvis Elevation test, they are graded as 3+.
