Rehab Procedure Overview
- This document outlines the Spring Fire Department's Rehab procedures.
- The guidelines are applicable for fire scenes, training events, public relations events, and as requested by Station Captains or the Executive Committee.
Rehab Member Requirements
- To be a Rehab member:
- Willingness to assist at any Spring Fire Department event.
- Availability of transportation to incidents and other functions.
- Good health, with any medical conditions discussed with the District Rehab Leader.
- A home or cell phone for communication.
- Notification of any unavailability to the District Rehab Leader, particularly for extended periods of 7 or more days.
- Member responsibilities:
- Availability for incidents, monitored by the District Rehab Leader.
- Replenishing supplies as needed.
Rehab Supplies and Equipment
- Provided by the Fire Department:
- Fire department pager and charger (when available)
- Key map
- Gatorade (2 cases)
- Water (2 cases)
- Cooler with wheels (when available)
- Trash bags
- Waterproof boots (when available)
- Fire Department I.D. and car sticker (when available)
Membership
- All Rehab members submit an application for consideration.
- Any officer of the Spring Fire Department can instruct a member to move to a safer location during an incident.
- Rehab members will assist at events as requested by Department Officers or Station Captains.
- If a Rehab member becomes ill, medically incapacitated, or experiences health changes, the District Rehab Leader must be notified.
- The District Rehab Leader will notify the Deputy Chief of Support Services to determine if further action is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- All Rehab members must maintain any issued equipment in a clean condition.
- Any new or replacement gear purchases must be approved by the District Rehab Leader and the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
- District Rehab Leaders can purchase low-stock expendable supplies with approval from the Deputy Chief of Support Services, with reimbursements handled by the Spring Volunteer Fire Association.
- Special financial arrangements can be made for situations like excessive call volume or extended fire scenes.
Rehab Vehicle and Deployment
- Squad 77 is the department's designated Rehab vehicle.
- Squad 77 is driven to the fire scene by fire department suppression personnel.
- Rehab members report to the Rehab vehicle at the fire scene to serve refreshments.
Rehab Member Files
- Each member’s file is maintained by the District Rehab Leader, with the original in the Administration Office.
Incident Response
- Rehab members follow all Spring Fire Department Policies, Procedures, and Orders.
- Rehab member responsibilities at an incident:
- Check in with the Incident Commander upon arrival.
- Locate the Rehab Staging area.
- Wear closed-toe shoes or department-issued boots.
- Wear Rehab shirt/safety vest (if provided)
- Children are not permitted on the scene, unless between 12 to 17 years old, accompanying a parent, staying out of the fire scene and with approval from the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
- Private vehicles are not allowed on incidents on any freeway unless authorized by the Incident Commander.
- To receive credit for an incident, members must check in with command and text or email the Rehab Leader. If cancelled before reaching the scene, they must text/email the Rehab Leader.
Rehab Response and Chain of Command
- Rehab 70 (RH70) must be paged to any incident.
- Rehab members are not to respond to an emergency scene without being dispatched.
- Spring Rehab may respond to requests for assistance from other agencies, if available.
- Rehab members will not respond outside of Spring Fire Department territory unless dispatched.
- Any issues raised by Rehab members will be reported to the Rehab Leader, who reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
