Study Notes
Direct Object Pronouns
- Review of direct object pronouns using the hill in the countryside: la on the left, lo on the right, te in front, and me at the bottom
- Nos is the direct object pronoun for "us", e.g., "they found us" = "ellas nos encontraron"
Indirect Object Pronouns
- Introducing indirect object pronouns with a new scene: le on the left, le on the right, te in front, and me and nos at the bottom
- Instead of la on the left and lo on the right, we now have le on both sides
- Me, te, and nos remain the same as in the direct object scene
Direct vs. Indirect Objects
- Direct object pronouns are used when someone performs an action directly on someone or something else, e.g., "they found him"
- Indirect object pronouns are used when someone is the recipient of a direct object in a sentence, e.g., "I gave him a book" where "him" is the indirect object
- If "him" can be turned into "to him" or "for him", use le (indirect object pronoun)
Key Points
- Direct object pronouns are interchangeable with "him" in certain cases
- Indirect object pronouns are used for the recipient of a direct object in a sentence
- Use le for indirect objects, especially when "him" can be turned into "to him" or "for him"
