Study Notes
Social Media Management
- The Spring Fire Department (SFD) manages its social media platforms responsibly, in alignment with guidelines and applicable law.
- SFD encourages community engagement; comments must be relevant to the post, follow applicable state and federal laws, and be respectful of others.
- Certain categories of speech, like child pornography, defamatory speech, false advertising, fighting words, obscenity, and true threats are not protected by the First Amendment.
- The department reserves the right to remove any comment on any SFD social media channel for various reasons, including violations of individual's legal rights, community standards, and platform standards.
Prohibited Content
- The department can remove content that includes personal information protected under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), the U.S. Privacy Act, HIPAA, COPPA, and other applicable laws.
- Removal can happen if copyright material owned by another is included.
- Content containing threats of serious bodily injury or deadly conduct, unapproved sales solicitations, spam, false or misinformation, links to violent or sexually explicit websites or malware, abusive, defamatory, harassing, or slanderous language, hate speech, obscenities, or vulgarities, or any comment that could place SFD, its members, or any commissioner in harms way will be removed.
Prohibited Social Media
- TikTok, or any successor application or service developed or provided by ByteDance or an entity owned by ByteDance Limited, is prohibited on all department devices by an executive order of the governor.
- This applies to phones, laptops, desktops, and iPads.
