Social Learning Theory
- People learn by observing the actions of others and the outcomes of those actions.
- We model ourselves after people we find admirable.
- Learning can occur without a change in behavior.
- Self-regulation is influenced by the perceived acceptability of external behaviors, especially from admirable people.
- There are four conditions for effective modelling:
- Attention - the observer must pay attention to the model
- Retention - the observer must remember the behavior, reinforcement may be through rehearsal.
- Motor Reproduction - the observer must be able to replicate the behavior.
- Motivation - the observer must be motivated to replicate the behavior.
