Personality
- A relatively stable set of characteristics, tendencies, and temperaments formed by heredity and social, cultural, and environmental factors.
- Personality traits are enduring characteristics that describe an individual's attitude and behavior which are stable over time.
- These traits determine how people interact with and react to various people and situations.
"Big Five" Model
- EXTROVERSION represents how social an individual is; extroversion or introversion is not necessarily bad, but extremes can be dysfunctional.
- AGREEABLENESS measures how friendly a person is; people who are too agreeable may be taken advantage of.
- EMOTIONAL STABILITY refers to how consistent someone is in their reactions to events; emotionally stable people are calm and objective.
- CONSCIENTIOUSNESS is the degree to which an individual is dependable; those with lower scores may be viewed as lazy.
- OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE characterizes how willing people are to broaden their horizons; individuals high in this factor are broad-minded, and professionals willing to reflect on feedback.
Self-Monitoring of Personality
- Defined as the tendency to adjust behavior relative to the changing demands of social situations.
- High self-monitors are sensitive to external cues and adapt to conform to expectations
- Low self-monitors are consistent and display true feelings in every situation.
Self-Concept
- Self-concept is the image people have of themselves influenced by interactions with others
- Beliefs such as "I am a good friend" are part of an overall self-concept.
- Self-concept includes how you view your personality traits and how feel about your interactions with the world.
- Self-perception affects motivations, attitudes, and behaviors.
- Self-concept is malleable in youth, but becomes more detailed with age.
- Self-concept can be changed based on environment and people in your life especially people in leadership.
- Self-concept is developed through interaction with family, friends, and social media.

Augustinian Core Values
- UNTIAS (UNITY): Includes harmony between God and man, man and his neighbor, and man's essential components. It refers to harmony between man and nature, and among all existing things in the universe.
- Includes unity in diversity and love, care for the common good, oneness in goal, co-responsibility, collaboration, mutual help, communication, good leadership, and fraternal correction.
- VERITAS (TRUTH): Saint Augustine's life was a search for truth. Possession of truth is necessary for man to be happy.
- Includes dedication to research, inquisitiveness, academic freedom, pursuit of excellence, sharing of knowledge, sincerity, objectivity, willingness to improve, critical discernment, and orientation towards God.
- CARITAS (CHARITY or LOVE): Saint Augustine speaks of four objects of love: God, ourselves, our neighbors, and our body. Love is what moves man and motivates all his actions in the City of God
- Includes love of God and neighbor, prayerfulness, friendship, sympathy, trust, patience, honest concern for others, mutual support, interpersonal tact, and forgiveness.
