5 Questions

What is the minimum amount of time required to observe an RDI of < 5 per hour to achieve optimal titration?

15 minutes

What is the minimum SpO2 required to achieve optimal titration?

90%

What is the condition of REM sleep required to achieve optimal titration?

Supine REM sleep is not continually interrupted by spontaneous arousals or awakenings

What is the RDI required to achieve good titration if the baseline RDI was 20?

10 per hour or reduced by 50% to 10 per hour from the baseline RDI

What is the primary purpose of titration?

To determine the optimal pressure for a CPAP device

Study Notes

Optimal Titration

  • Optimal titration is achieved when the Respiratory Disturbance Index (RDI) is less than 5 per hour for at least 15 minutes at the selected pressure.
  • This pressure must be within the manufacturer’s acceptable leak limit.
  • Optimal titration also requires SpO2 to be above 90% at the selected pressure.
  • Additionally, supine REM sleep at the selected pressure should not be continually interrupted by spontaneous arousals or awakenings.

Good Titration

  • Good titration is achieved when the Respiratory Disturbance Index (RDI) is less than 10 per hour.
  • Alternatively, good titration is also achieved when the RDI is reduced by 50% from the baseline RDI.

This quiz assesses your understanding of optimal and good titration criteria in sleep therapy, including Respiratory Disturbance Index and SpO2 levels.
