Sistema Urinario y Reproductor

Overview

The genitourinary system, also known as the urogenital system, consists of the organs involved in the production and elimination of urine, as well as the reproductive organs.

Kidneys

• Location: Retroperitoneal space, on either side of the spine
• Functions:
  • Filter waste and excess fluids from the blood
  • Regulate electrolyte levels
  • Produce hormones that regulate blood pressure and produce red blood cells
• Structure:
  • Outer layer: Renal cortex
  • Inner layer: Renal medulla
  • Functional units: Nephrons

Ureters

• Location: Connect the kidneys to the bladder
• Functions:
  • Transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder
  • Muscular walls that propel urine through peristalsis

Bladder

• Location: Pelvis
• Functions:
  • Store urine
  • Expel urine through the urethra
• Structure:
  • Muscular wall
  • Mucous membrane lining

Urethra

• Location: Connects the bladder to the outside of the body
• Functions:
  • Transport urine from the bladder to the outside of the body
• Structure:
  • Male: Longer and narrower than the female urethra
  • Female: Shorter and wider than the male urethra

Male Reproductive System

• Location: Pelvis and perineum
• Organs:
  • Testes: Produce sperm
  • Epididymis: Store and transport sperm
  • Vas deferens: Transport sperm from the epididymis to the prostate gland
  • Prostate gland: Produce seminal fluid
  • Urethra: Transport sperm and seminal fluid to the outside of the body
  • Penis: Deliver sperm and seminal fluid to the female reproductive system

Female Reproductive System

• Location: Pelvis and perineum
• Organs:
  • Ovaries: Produce eggs
  • Fallopian tubes: Transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterus
  • Uterus: Support fetal development during pregnancy
  • Cervix: Lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina
  • Vagina: Transport sperm to the cervix
  • Vulva: External female genital area

Other Organs

• Adrenal glands: Located on top of the kidneys, produce hormones that regulate stress response, blood pressure, and electrolyte levels
• Urogenital diaphragm: A muscular structure that separates the pelvic cavity from the perineum

Riñones

Uréteres

• Ubicación: Conectan los riñones con la vejiga urinaria
• Funciones:
  • Transportan orina desde los riñones hasta la vejiga urinaria
  • Paredes musculares que impulsan la orina mediante peristalsis

Vejiga Urinaria

• Ubicación: Pelvis
• Funciones:
  • Almacenan orina
  • Expulsan orina a través de la uretra
• Estructura:
  • Pared muscular
  • Revestimiento mucoso

Uretra

• Ubicación: Conecta la vejiga urinaria con el exterior del cuerpo
• Funciones:
  • Transporta orina desde la vejiga urinaria hasta el exterior del cuerpo
• Estructura:
  • Masculina: Más larga y estrecha que la uretra femenina
  • Femenina: Más corta y ancha que la uretra masculina

Sistema Reproductor Masculino

• Ubicación: Pelvis y perineo
• Órganos:
  • Testículos: Producen espermatozoides
  • Epidídimo: Almacenan y transportan espermatozoides
  • Vas deferens: Transportan espermatozoides desde el epidídimo hasta la próstata
  • Próstata: Produce fluido seminal
  • Uretra: Transporta espermatozoides y fluido seminal al exterior del cuerpo
  • Pene: Entrega espermatozoides y fluido seminal al sistema reproductor femenino

Sistema Reproductor Femenino

• Ubicación: Pelvis y perineo
• Órganos:
  • Ovarios: Producen óvulos
  • Trompas de Falopio: Transportan óvulos desde los ovarios hasta el útero
  • Útero: Sustenta el desarrollo fetal durante el embarazo
  • Cérvix: Parte inferior del útero que se abre en la vagina
  • Vagina: Transporta esperma al cuello uterino
  • Vulva: Área genital externa femenina

Otros Órganos

• Glándulas adrenales: Ubicadas encima de los riñones, producen hormonas que regulan la respuesta al estrés, la presión arterial y los niveles de electrolitos
• Diafragma urogenital: Estructura muscular que separa la cavidad pélvica del perineo
