Sistema Nervioso Central (SNC)
- Composed of the brain and spinal cord
- Responsible for integrating and processing information
- Protected by the blood-brain barrier
- Functions:
- Interprets and responds to sensory information
- Controls voluntary movements
- Regulates body temperature, hunger, and thirst
- Manages emotions and behavior
Sistema Nervioso Periférico (SNP)
- Composed of nerves that connect the SNC to the rest of the body
- Divided into:
- Somatic nervous system: controls voluntary movements
- Autonomic nervous system: regulates involuntary functions
- Functions:
- Transmits sensory information to the SNC
- Transmits motor signals from the SNC to muscles and glands
Transmisión De Señales
- Electrical and chemical signals are transmitted between neurons
- Process:
- Electrical signal reaches the end of the neuron
- Neurotransmitters are released into the synapse
- Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the next neuron
- Signal is transmitted to the next neuron
