The three major types of sinkholes are solution sinkholes, cover collapse sinkholes, and cover subsidence sinkholes.

A sinkhole is a depression or hole in the ground that leads to the inner part of the earth due to natural or artificial phenomena. It is formed either through natural processes where rock dissolves progressively, or through artificial processes such as broken pipes, reckless mining, or changes in water drainage forms.

Cover collapse sinkhole is the most hazardous type of sinkhole that is commonly seen in spaces where sand or layers of clay cover the bedrock.
