  • Plural nouns refer to more than one object.
  • Plural nouns often end in -s or -es.

Forming Plural Nouns

  • Regular nouns:
    • Add -s: duck - ducks, tower - towers
    • Add -es: bus - buses, brush - brushes, church - churches, glass - glasses, box - boxes
    • Add -s to nouns ending with a vowel and y: toy - toys, monkey - monkeys
    • Change y to i then add -es to nouns ending with a consonant and y: fly - flies, cherry - cherries
    • Add -s to some nouns ending in f or fe: hoof - hoofs, giraffe - giraffes
    • Change f or fe to v then add -es to most nouns ending in f or fe: knife - knives, leaf - leaves
    • Add -es to some nouns ending in a consonant and o: mango - mangoes, tomato - tomatoes
    • Add -s to nouns ending in a vowel and o: radio - radios, video - videos

Irregular Nouns

  • Irregular nouns do not follow the regular rules for forming plurals.
  • They may change their spelling or remain the same in the plural form.
  • Examples: man - men, sheep - sheep, tooth - teeth, deer - deer
