Study Notes
Sine Wave Parameters
- Frequency describes oscillation periods per time unit. Audio uses seconds. Unit is Hertz (Hz). Multiples include kilohertz (kHz), and megahertz (MHz).
- Frequency formula: f = 1/T
- Period duration is time for a full sine wave cycle. Unit is seconds.
- Period duration formula: T = 1/f
- Wavelength is spatial correspondence to period duration, calculated from propagation speed and frequency.
- Wavelength formula: λ = c/f
Sine Wave Characteristics
- Sine wave is the simplest waveform, also called harmonic oscillation.
- Consists of only one frequency.
- Complex oscillations (except sine/cosine) are mixtures of multiple sine waves.
- A sine wave is the purest form of sound.
Sine Wave Measurements
- Different values can be abstracted:
- Ueff (Effective Value, RMS)
- û (Peak Value, Amplitude)
- Upp (Peak-Peak Value)
- Equation for effective value of sinusoidal alternating voltages: Ueff = (1/√2) * U
